Living well with autism — a Personal Experience
“… when [my son] looks at me, it means something, it means that we’re connecting and that means a lot. It made me feel really happy and really good.”
Thank you for your interest in Lookware!
Hi,
I am Harry Schiavi, CEO of Biostream Technologies. Like you, I’m a proud parent of an autistic child. Welcome to Biostream! I want to share with you why I’m here.
My wife and I have two children. The oldest is 17 and he’s on the spectrum. We didn’t have eye contact with him until he was 5 and no verbal communication until he was 6.
We were lucky. My wife was able to leave work so our son could go to therapy and social skills training. You understand the time commitments involved. 20–40 hours per week. We were able to find caring and committed therapists and schools. For years, our son worked tirelessly. He’s applying to colleges for the 2025 academic year. We are proud of our son beyond words.
Throughout the years of hard work, happy successes, and discouraging setbacks, we hoped and prayed for the best. Every therapy session and school lesson we looked for and celebrated whatever gains, big or small, he achieved. A day was a good day if he felt better about himself and his progress than the day before. It was hard to have the optimism to hope he would be where he is today let alone be able to develop his full potential. We were and are so lucky.
I first heard about Biostream in 2017. After meeting the founder, Mike Farber, I volunteered to do pro bono work for them. The more I learned about Biostream’s Lookwaretm digital adjunctive therapeutic platform (sorry, our lawyer tells me this is the right way to refer to Lookware, to be sure we do things right) the more I became convinced that it will make a big difference for the ASD community. Now, with ASD treatment at its current state, amplified by Lookware’s capabilities, I believe that for the first time we can think in terms of developing a child’s full potential, not just small daily developmental increments.
When Biostream asked me to be CEO, I jumped at the chance. I said, “I wish I had Lookware 14 years ago when our son started therapy.”
With or without even the best therapy, Lookware included, the ASD path is long and difficult for everyone in the community. Biostream is solidly on that path. We are building Biostream to become a world leader in digital therapeutic solutions for ASD therapy.
This is what we stand for:
The children, parents and therapist/teachers are the team. We want to earn our place on the team.
The therapist/teacher is the team captain. We know you depend on them. Lookware can only be used by a licensed therapist or credentialed special education teacher. Biostream will work primarily with therapists and teachers. They will look out for your child’s wellbeing and therapy program as always.
Think of us as a tool that supercharges therapists’ and teachers’ work. A tool they use so they can do more for your child. Every child is different. If Lookware is right for your child, they will decide and tell you that. If not, they will tell you that too. If recommended, the decision to use Lookware is yours.
Lookware is a new technology and not reimbursed by insurance. We charge less than a typical office visit copay per session to be paid by the parent/caregiver on a session-by-session basis at this time.
- Your child will attend therapy sessions and school IEP exercises and continue to apply themselves as always. The big change for kids is that therapy will be fun. In fact, in a survey of 127 children, 98% liked Lookware or liked it a lot. Certainly, every child is different. But we believe positive rewards integrated into therapy is the best approach for social skills training.
- We can’t be part of every aspect of your child’s therapy or educational program, but we can make ABA-based training more productive and even fun. For the team.
